Sauna Electrical Requirements: 120V vs 240V
The electrical question should be answered before the sauna arrives. Some compact infrared cabins run on 120V, while larger infrared cabins and most traditional electric heaters move into higher loads or 240V service.
120V covers very different loads
Current manufacturer examples range from the JNH Tosi 2-Person at 1,540 W / 15 A to the HigherDOSE 2-Person at 2,250 W / 20 A on a dedicated circuit. Those are both 120V products but they are not interchangeable from a circuit-planning perspective.
240V becomes common as heat demand rises
Higher-output infrared cabins and traditional electric heaters often use 240V. HigherDOSE currently lists its 3-Person sauna at 240V / 2,930 W / 15 A, while Harvia lists the KIP60W as a 6.0 kW 240V heater. The heater manual and local code determine the final circuit.
Dedicated circuit is the decision variable
Do not plan around whether a receptacle happens to be nearby. Check the exact model requirement for voltage, amperage, plug or hardwire configuration and whether a dedicated circuit is required. Electrical requirements vary by exact model, jurisdiction, conductor length, ambient conditions and code. Use total installed cost
If one sauna requires a new 240V branch circuit and another works on an appropriate existing dedicated 120V circuit, the installed-cost difference can be meaningful. Price the electrical work before comparing only cabin prices.
